Horizons
Coordinates 49° 43’N 2° 66’W
Altitude 86.34 m
Set on the north-eastern brow of a valley before it drops to the sea, Horizon is held by morning light, coastal air and the contours of the land. The house sits within a former Victorian fortification, elevated above trees and coastline, with uninterrupted views across the horizon.
The design begins by listening. Orientation and aspect are drawn from the site itself. Circulation and entrance are placed to the north, offering privacy and clarity. Living spaces open to the terrace above, where the clients spend most of the year. When guests arrive, the lower floor is revealed.

The intervention is subtle. A series of additions, lightweight and precise, support the rhythms of modern family life. Services, circulation and sleeping spaces are suspended from the existing structure, allowing the original form to remain legible.
A sustainable approach begins by recognising the value already held in the structure. It is a process of refinement, not replacement, where each decision is shaped by what endures.
