Eastview

Coordinates 49° 43’N 2° 66’W

Altitude 11.44 m

Drawing from the introspective vernacular of the islands, Eastview turns outward, embracing view, climate, and change. It continues a lineage of quiet experimentation, echoing the spirit of mid-century case study houses and the early investigations of Speakman and Sayers. Reduction and refinement guide its form, offering a contemporary response to place, memory, and openness.

Eastview stands above a former stone quarry, anchored to the foundations of an old bungalow.
Its steel frame opens the house to the coastline, creating a camp-like connection to the horizon and daily rituals of light and weather. The L-shaped plan, with a separate bedroom wing, responds to the sun’s path and prevailing winds, offering spaces for retreat and prospect. A generous overhang, the ‘big hat’, modulates seasonal heat gain, shaping the rhythm of family life from sunrise to sunset.
